Well, office, is, my bedroom in a 3 bedroom family home. What happened was an old CRT monitor over heated and caught fire. When we were downstairs I my sister started complaining of a smell. I sniffed and it smelt just like crack cocaine! Well, upon investigating the upstairs floor - which was filled with smoke at this point - I went inside my bedroom to find the CRT with smoke coming out the back of it! Glowing, and sparks flying!
Well, what can I say? My mother insisted I unplug it - some thing I did reluctantly from fear of getting an electric shock or the monitor exploding in my face (!) so basically when it was unplugged the glowing stopped and it looks like we were very lucky for it to have caught fire when we were all present. If, for instance, I was at college when this happened, then sure enough there would have been an fire.
That said, now my room smells like one hell of a crack session took place in it. It's even stinging my eyes and the windows had been opened for roughly an hour now.
So, the moral of the story, don't leave on old CRT monitors you rescued from a coal shed!
