The new standard is breaking in the ISO factory. I have read several white papers on the subject, glimpsed at the wiki on C++0x just now, and was informed that this is an informal name for the new standard being announced some time this year.

One new aspect of C++ is the Thread.h threading library. This will enable truely amazing multi-tasking support in the language. This is a feature that I am looking forward to most of all because I already have the threading luxury in the .Net Framework since its early days of design and to have the thread library standardised is awesome for programmers, especially of Operating Systems.

The true test will come when we put the Thread.h library through its paces and compare it against such other Threading concepts as Thread Pools under the .Net Framework.

That said, there are also some new syntax definitions which I will not go into here for sake of brevity. Do a search for a C++0x white paper if you must know all the Devil in is the details stuff!

Well, this also means I will be spending much more money on books to learn the tricks of the new C++0x standard! I already own C in a Nutshell and C++ in a Nutshell and also the K&R C Bible (which I have only just got round to reading this week *grins*)

Hopefully, as the white paper stated, it is making C++ in the new standard easier for beginners, but without losing any of its functionality. I seriously hope that is true and that they have not messed too much with what is a decent langauge to begin.
